During the trade mission of Dutch prime minister Rutte, minister Ploumen and Sharon Dijksen in June 2015, One Million Hockey Legs and Bovelander Hockey Academy were asked by the Dutch Consulate to organize a weekend full of hockey, networking and promotional activities in the Holland Village in Mumbai.
In collaboration with Edelgrass and Robeco group, a wonderful mini hockey field was constructed in the Holland Village. Several hockey activities took place in the Maidan Park that resulted into a lot of fun. The hockey program was the binding factor between the Holland Village and sport, as it clearly resulted its strengths. The highlight of the hockey program was the match between the former Indian international players, such as Danraj Pillay, and the Dutch team that consisted of Wouter Jolie, Klaas Vermeulen and Floris Jan Bovelander. The match ended in a 10-10 score, which obviously symbolized the friendship between these hockey nations.
In addition, several hockey clinics and tournaments were organized for school teams from the Mumbai region. An exclusive hockey clinic for the children of the Robeco group was given. One Million Hockey Legs also organized a special training for children that have their residence at the Maidan Park, the location where the Holland Village was built for one week. At the end of the event, One Million Hockey Legs left 20 hockey sticks and balls behind. The social worker who was in charge of all children, will now be able to use the equipment to stimulate play on a regular basis in the Maidan Park.
A coaching course for local coaches was organized. During the network meetings, multiple Dutch internationals were present, such as Wouter Jolie, Klaas Vermeulen, Floris Jan Bovelander as well as former world champion Kiki Collot d’Escury and Robert Tigges. Under supervision of Prime Minister Rutte and State Secretary Dijksma, One Million Hockey Legs signed contracts with Edelgrass and HR group. The overall experience was of great value, especially because during Prime Minister Rutte’s final speech, One Million Hockey Legs was mentioned including its mutual ties with the Netherlands.
